Q&A: What information must be retained to document training?
Question
What information must be retained to document training? Does record of training completion suffice, or must there be additional information about the type and content of the training?
Answer
According to federal OSHA regulations, you must maintain training records that include:
- The dates of the training sessions;
- The contents or a summary of the training sessions;
- The names and qualifications of the individuals conducting the training; and
- The names and job titles of all persons attending the training sessions.
If feasible, you can retain a copy of training materials (PowerPoint slides, course outlines, eLearning transcripts, etc.).
The goal is to demonstrate compliance with any specific requirements of a regulation, such as content requirements, ability to ask questions of the trainer, or hands-on practice.
