Workplace Safety
Welding and Cutting Safety for Construction Workers
Course description
Construction workers are exposed to hazards from oxy-fuel and electrical arc welding during tasks that require fusing metal parts that are potentially exposed to those hazards. This training course is designed for the oxy-fuel and electrical arc welders on construction sites. It provides safe work practices for the use of personal protective equipment, or PPE, for welders and explains how to prevent fires during the welding task and how to use ventilation for protection against welding fumes.
Compliance:
To supplement this training, employers must provide employees with additional training, including:
• The specific hazards of the jobsite that may present an unsafe condition
• The emergency preparedness and response necessary on a construction site
• Managing traffic, pedestrian, and other unauthorized personnel/trespassers who may enter the site, and
• PPE
Course Duration: 25 min
Learning objectives:
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:- Identify the major safety and health hazards of oxy-fuel and electrical arc welding
- Recall the difference between the welding processes on construction sites
- Select and use appropriate PPE
- Implement controls needed to prevent or control fires by isolating the welding process and removing all combustibles from the area
