Course description

This session covers the safety procedure known as “Lockout/Tagout,” performed by authorized employees responsible for service and maintenance work on machines and equipment that contain or expose workers to the unexpected release of hazardous energy. Before performing this work, you need to have the knowledge and skills necessary to safely control hazardous energy and perform lockout and tagout of machines and equipment.

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify hazardous energy sources at the workplace
  • Recognize the type and magnitude of the energy associated with the machinery or equipment on which you will perform service or maintenance work
  • Describe the methods and means necessary for energy isolation and control, including lockout and tagout procedures
  • Explain the means to verify effective energy control
  • Recall the purpose of the lockout and tagout, and the limitations of tags
