Course description

According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), most incidents involving the release of hazardous materials (HAZMAT) are the result of human error. This means that most incidents can be prevented if employees know the proper safety procedures and follow the requirements of the HAZMAT transportation regulations. The more employees know about how to transport HAZMAT, the safer they’ll be personally and the safer the shipments they’re involved with will be, as well.

Learning objectives:

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify HAZMAT
  • Recognize HAZMAT marking, labeling, and placard shipment requirements
  • Follow proper procedures to load and unload HAZMAT safely
  • Implement measures to protect themselves from the hazards of the materials they handle
  • Respond effectively to releases of HAZMAT
  • Protect their facility’s HAZMAT with proper security precautions, both at the facility and en route
