Arc Flash Safety: Unqualified Person
Course description
This course is for employees in general industry covered under 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910 Subpart S. This course does not cover electrical safety for construction and other industries.
This course also provides safe work practices from the consensus standard, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, that can help prevent arc flash incidents.
Compliance:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that all affected persons who work near electrical equipment and are potentially exposed to arc flash, shock, and electrical hazards receive additional training on:
• Machine safety and machine guarding (29 CFR 1910 Subpart O);
• Basic electrical safety work practices (29 CFR 1910 Subpart S);
• Control of hazardous energy, also known as lockout/tagout (29 CFR 191.147);
• PPE (29 CFR 191.137); and
• Warning signs and labels (29 CFR 1910.145).

- Follow safe work procedures to prevent arc flash
- Recognize and wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Respond appropriately to an arc flash incident
