This course is for employees in general industry covered under 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910 Subpart S. This course does not cover electrical safety for construction and other industries.
This course also provides safe work practices from the consensus standard, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, that can help prevent arc flash incidents.
Compliance:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that all affected persons who work near electrical equipment and are potentially exposed to arc flash, shock, and electrical hazards receive additional training on:
• Machine safety and machine guarding (29 CFR 1910 Subpart O);
• Basic electrical safety work practices (29 CFR 1910 Subpart S);
• Control of hazardous energy, also known as lockout/tagout (29 CFR 191.147);
• PPE (29 CFR 191.137); and
• Warning signs and labels (29 CFR 1910.145).
More than 2,000 people annually are treated in burn centers with severe arc flash injuries, and many of the victims report that failure to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), inappropriate use of tools, and working on live circuits contributed to their injuries.
This course provides information about arc flash and shock hazards and safe work practices for “unqualified” persons who work around but not directly on or near exposed, energized electrical equipment or parts.
By the end of the course, unqualified persons will be able to identify the hazards and risks of arc flash, implement safe work practices, recognize appropriate PPE, and respond to an arc flash incident.

Workers at construction sites who operate electric-powered machinery, tools, and equipment, and others who do maintenance or service work on or near electrical systems, but aren’t qualified to perform electrical work, face the risk of contact with electricity that can cause life-threatening shock, burns, fires, falls, and electrocution.
This course is for workers exposed to electricity at construction workplaces, but who aren’t authorized or qualified to work directly on or near exposed, energized electrical systems or parts. This course is designed to help workers unfamiliar with or untrained in the technical aspects of electricity to recognize electrical hazards and safe practices to avoid injury at the construction site.
This session provides information about electrical hazards in the construction industry and best safety practices for “unqualified persons” who may use common portable electrical tools but who are not familiar with the construction and operation of more complex electrical equipment and the hazards involved. “Unqualified” means that you are not specifically trained and authorized to work on or near energized electrical equipment and wiring. This session will teach you how important it is to work safely with electrical tools and around exposed, energized electrical equipment.

This course is for unqualified persons in California who have strict limitations when working with and around electrical equipment and aren’t allowed to perform electrical maintenance and repair. This course is designed to assist workers who are unfamiliar with or untrained in the technical aspects of electricity to recognize hazards and safe work practices to avoid injury on the job.
Additional training is required for workers who are qualified to work on or near exposed, energized electrical equipment and wiring.
This is a Refresher course for Unqualified Electrical Persons work around electrical equipment, Persons who may be exposed to electricity in general industry workplaces, but who are not authorized or qualified to work directly on or near exposed, energized electrical systems or parts. This course will provide highlights on electrical safety hazards for unqualified persons and provide those practices to avoid injury on the job.
Additional training is required for persons who have not taken the full course in Electrical Safety for the Unqualified Person.

This training session covers electrical safety for unqualified persons. “Unqualified” persons are machine operators, operators of powered industrial trucks, construction workers, and others who are not qualified to perform electrical work but who still face the risk of electrical shock and need to know important information about the hazards of electricity to prevent serious injury. This course is meant to supplement hands-on or classroom training that your employer must provide to familiarize you with the specific electrical hazards of your job.
