Preventing Slips, Trips, and Falls at Industrial Sites: A Guide for Employees

Slips, trips, and falls are among the most common causes of injury on the job. These injuries result in 1 or more days away from work, and for more severe injuries, you could be looking at weeks of lost workdays. Some workers might even be permanently disabled and unable to perform their normal jobs. Slips, trips, and falls are debilitating; costly; and, most importantly, largely preventable.

This course is for workers in industrial environments and discusses how to prevent slips, trips, and falls by recognizing hazards, applying safe work practices, and using fall prevention and protection systems.

Safe Forklift Operation in California

Operating a forklift is a big responsibility, and it’s one that requires you to pay attention to safety at all times. Forklifts are useful for handling heavy materials but remember that they are powerful machines that can be extremely dangerous if operated incorrectly.
This course is designed to help you become a better and safer forklift operator. If you’re an experienced operator, this course may remind you of safe habits and work practices that you might have forgotten. If you’re a new operator, this course will describe the operating practices you need to follow to be a safe operator. If you are an experienced operator but are new to the state of California, this course should alert you to some new practices not required elsewhere.
This session covers the basic concepts of operating a forklift safely and prepares you for hands-on operator training. CAL/OSHA has strict requirements on all manners of operation and equipment, which we will discuss in general throughout this training session.

Crane Rigging

Cranes are used in a variety of industries to lift and move large and heavy objects. But if a crane is not properly set up, rigged, and balanced, it can tip over or drop its load, causing injuries or fatalities to workers below and resulting in significant property damage. Proper rigging is an essential step to preventing these incidents. This training course identifies the basics of safe crane rigging, including hazards to be aware of, safe practices to follow, and actions to avoid.

This course is for crane riggers and workers who have crane rigging responsibilities in general industry. This course can also be used as awareness training for employees who work around cranes, but do not have any crane rigging duties.

Scissor Lifts: Operator Safety

Thousands of workers use scissor lifts to perform work at heights across a wide variety of industries. But because of this high rate of usage, there is a similarly high rate of scissor lift-related accidents. Fortunately, most of these incidents can be prevented through proper training. This course will provide scissor lift operators with information on the hazards associated with scissor lifts and the safe practices to minimize those hazards, including safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of scissor lifts.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, work-related musculoskeletal disorders, or MSDs, are among the most frequently reported causes of lost or restricted work time. Workers in many different industries and occupations can be exposed to MSD risk factors at work. Fortunately, work-related MSDs can be prevented. By understanding basic ergonomic principles and applying them to your job, you can minimize MSD risk factors, avoid strains on your body, and reduce your risk of injury.

Thousands of workers use scissor lifts to perform work at heights across a wide variety of industries. But because of this high rate of usage, there is a similarly high rate of scissor lift-related accidents. Fortunately, the majority of these incidents can be prevented through proper training. This presentation will train scissor lift operators to appreciate the hazards associated with scissor lifts; minimize those hazards; and safely operate, handle materials on, and inspect and maintain scissor lifts.
By the end of the course, workers will be able to recognize the hazards of operating scissor lifts; identify common features of scissor lift equipment; inspect scissor lifts and maintain them in a safe working condition; demonstrate safe stabilization, positioning, and operation of scissor lifts; lift loads, tools, and other work materials properly; and prevent falls through safe work practices and by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
